In The Middle
“In the middle of a difficuly lies opportunity.
Albert Einstein
You knew this one was coming. You can’t be a middle child without telling others that you’re the middle child. But the middle does get a bad rap- it’s got its very own Syndrome. And consider these other mid-way points: Middle School. The forgotten years; Middle Ages. A dirty, violent time. Middle Age. A life crisis. No one wants to be “in the middle of nowhere” or “in the middle of the road.” I think abou the middle of the Way alot because it contains the longest stretches- 13 and 14 miles. When I am out walking, it is in the middle that I start to get really bored. I know there will be a lot going on- scenery, conversation, food- but still, walking is walking.

I try to think or the positives. I think of yesterday’s post on Port. It is in the middle stage when the grapes are crushed and alcohol is added that the transformation process begins. If you’ve ever walked a labyrinth, it is the middle of the maze where you rest and reflect as long as you’d like. How about the middle of a football game, half-time: Music. Junk food. Bathroom break. The middle doesn’t have to be all bad.

So, is the middle of this journey a difficulty, an opportunity, or both. I really don’t know. I am open to the insights of those who have hit the middle of anything (especially physical) and survived. What really happens?
