Purpose
Carlos Ruiz Zafón, The Shadow of the Wind
“A story is a letter that the author writes to himself, to tell himself things that he would be unable to discover otherwise.”
The purpose of this blog is to capture my experiences, photographs, and reflections as I walk el Camino de Santiago, The Way of St. James, through northwestern Spain, the Galacia region.
I am grateful to Dave Trimble for asking me to consider blogging. I had been thinking about how I wanted to document my trip. Jounaling and picture-taking were obvious choices. A blog had crossed my mind, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to share my thoughts publicly or if anyone would read it; I determined that didn’t matter.
After some consideration, I decided to go for it. I was a little nervous because technology isn’t really my thing. No excuses. With my YouTube knowledge, I wantched countless videos on how to purchase a domain name, sync it with a blog account, figure out the basics, and use the features. This took hours. No days. My obsessiveness kicked into full gear as I was determined to figure it out. It reminded me of the time Charlie sat on his bed for forty-eight hours writing down Rubik’s Cube algorithms. You know what they say about the apple and the tree. Although frustrating, I have enjoyed learning something new and engaging in the writing process to the point where I have forgotten to do the laundry, grocery shop, and interact with other people. I have bit off all my nails. It has been so much fun.
The daily posts are becoming more than just practice. I’ve realized how much goes into the preparation for the trip- physically, mentally, and spirtitually. Meausre twice, cut once, Whether you choose to continue to follow along is up to you. I won’t take it personally if you don’t, as the blog is already serving its purpose.
